Since opening our doors in July 2019, Greaves Funeral Services has built a strong reputation for providing compassionate, professional, and personal funeral services. Although operating since 2016, our continued growth as a company reflects our dedication to delivering a caring, client-focused service to every family we support.
As an independent family-run business, we take great pride in the relationships we build with our clients. We are proud to provide respectful and culturally sensitive Afro-Caribbean funeral services, understanding the importance of tradition, family, faith, and celebration of life within the community. About Our Founder
Born in the United Kingdom, as a baby Ian Greaves returned to his parent’s homeland of Barbados until the age of 17 years old. He returned to London to access further education.
Ian trained and is a qualified Chef, this led to him catering to many high-profile attendees at various events. To broaden his knowledge, he decided to train in another field and went on to qualify as a Gas Engineer.
As the years passed, Ian wanted to be challenged further and after being approached by another Funeral Director to assist them during their busy period, Ian was introduced to the Funeral Services, which is where his passion first began. This experience meant Ian worked less and less in both of his initial careers choices.
Following more than 25 years working within the Funeral Service, working for a number of Funeral Directors, Greaves Funeral Services was founded by Ian in 2016.
Throughout his career, Ian recognised how important it is for every family to feel understood, respected and supported during one of the most difficult times in their lives. With a deep appreciation and understanding of Afro-Caribbean cultural traditions and funeral customs, he established Greaves Funeral Services with the aim of providing compassionate, personal and culturally sensitive care to every family entrusted to him.
Ian believes that his business cannot provide the outstanding service without the hardworking and dedicated attitude of the people who work within his team. At the heart of Greaves Funeral Services is a commitment to creating meaningful farewells that honour both the individual and the cultural traditions that matter most to those left behind.
Being a Funeral Director is a role that carries great responsibility, compassion, and trust. While the work itself is serious, Ian is widely known for his warm, friendly and uplifting personality, which has brought comfort to many families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. His calm and approachable manner helps families feel more at ease, allowing them to speak openly and feel supported throughout the process.
Although he brings warmth and reassurance to every family he meets, Ian always carries out his duties with the utmost professionalism, dignity and care. Many of our clients have shared how his reassuring presence and genuine compassion helped ease some of the stress and anxiety they were experiencing during such a painful time.
